Pop Music Piano Book

Pop Music Piano Book

Are you looking for a pop music piano book? Most beginner piano books don't include pop songs, largely because of copyright issues and because the level of difficulty in pop songs is much higher.

Why Are Pop Songs Harder?

First of all, the rhythms of pop music are much more complex than, say, a song like TWINKLE TWINKLE.

Our books simplify these more complex rhythms, so the song sounds right but is easier to play.

Try A Pop Song On Our Online Piano

Not all pop songs are rhythmically complex, but they generally are too difficult for younger kids.

Try BABY SHARK:

BABY SHARK

| 1 * * * | 2 * * * | 4 * 4 * | 4 * 4 4 |
| * 4 4 * | 1 * 2 * | 4 * 4 * | 4 * 4 4 |
| * 4 4 * | 1 * 2 * | 4 * 4 * | 4 * 4 4 |
| * 4 4 * | 4 * 4 * | 3 * * * |

The notes themselves are not difficult for kids, but the rhythms are very angular and complex, and are likely to pose problems for younger kids.

Unless a child knows BABY SHARK, it will be difficult to get the rhythm even close. But that is the advantage of using familiar songs: kids already know the general idea. Give them an unknown piece of music and they are lost.

For example, if you give a kid the sheet music (even the super easy version) for a familiar pop song like ALL OF ME (John Legend) the child will be bewildered unless you can translate the song into easy terms the child can understand.

Pop Songs By Number

Our book POP SONGS BY NUMBER contains 38 familiar pop songs that have been arranged to be easy to play, yet sound convincingly like the original.

POP SONGS BY NUMBER contains 38 popular songs that use both the white and black keys of the piano. It contains chord indications (groups of three keys played with the left hand) so that you can start playing with both hands, and includes lyrics.

A Foggy Day, All I Have To Do Is Dream, Always On My Mind, Bewitched, Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain, Crazy, El Paso, Georgia, Harry Potter, He’ll Have To Go, Hey, Jude, I Fall To Pieces, I Left My Heart in San Francisco, I Walk The Line, I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry, Imagine, Jingle Bell Rock, King of the Road, Love Me Tender, Make The World Go Away, Moon River, My Funny Valentine, My Heart Will Go On, Ring of Fire, Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, Satisfaction, Somewhere Over the Rainbow, Stand By Your Man, Stormy Weather, Strangers in the Night, Theme from The Godfather, We Are the Champions, White Christmas, Yellow Submarine, Yesterday, Your Cheating Heart

Suitable for Adults and Children

The above songs are arranged with melody in the right hand, and chords in the left hand. Kids can ignore the chord indications at first because playing with both hands is confusing for children.

The melodies of pop songs are necessarily more complex than "nursery" songs like Alouette, and require both the black and white keys (flats and sharps.)

Perhaps the real point is that FAMILIAR songs are appealing to children because the musical image of the song is already in their brain.
